Statement on Special Envoy Stephane Dion’s Visit to Armenia

(February 25, 2022 – OTTAWA) – Today, the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) issued the following statement on the occasion of Ambassador Stéphane Dion’s visit to Armenia.

“The Armenian National Committee of Canada welcomes Ambassador Stéphane Dion’s official visit to Armenia, as a part of his mission to support Armenian democracy and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

“Since Ambassador Dion’s appointment as Canada’s Special Envoy to support Armenian Democracy, the ANCC has had the opportunity to meet and have several discussions with Ambassador Dion, primarily focusing on our key policy priority of strengthening bilateral ties through the establishment of a Canadian Embassy in Yerevan, deepening economic and commercial ties between the two countries and help Armenia bolster its resilience and democratic progress.

“We are convinced that the long-overdue establishment of a Canadian Embassy in Yerevan is the key for Canada to substantially improve Armenia’s commitment to democratic standards, help diversify the Armenian economy, and increase Ottawa’s own presence and relevance in a region crippled by Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression and hostility.

“We are confident that Ambassador Dion’s visit will bring new impetus to the promising relations between Ottawa and Yerevan and pave the way to a new chapter in bilateral relations.

“We look forward to engaging with Ambassador Dion during and after his visit to Armenia and continue our discussions and advocacy related to all the issues concerning the Armenian-Canadian community.”
